TR Falcon Library Supports W.I.C.O.R!
Writing
With two full computer labs, and a smaller “side” lab for faculty and individual students, your library can accommodate classes and students who want to complete writing assignments in a facility designed for work.
In addition, your librarians have a combined 40 years of experience in English and Speech classes. We encourage students and staff to ask us questions about content, conventions, and any other aspect of writing.
Inquiry
The library’s online search and database system -- Destiny Discover -- is a comprehensive tool that allows students and staff 24 hour access to browse our book collection and search dozens of research databases. The librarians can also help with specific questions, offering advice on the best way to craft an online search, validating sources, and citing information.
Librarians can be consulted in person, by email, or through the “Ask a Falcon Librarian” link on the website.
Collaboration
Students can work together in collaborative documents, or face to face (IRL) at one of our tables. The MakerSpace has games (and is adding throughout the year) that allow students to engage in spirited, competitive rule and play discussion. Also, staff and students are encouraged to work with us on academic and school-centered projects, using collaborative discussion to guide toward academic success.
Organization
The library encourages students to develop and use organizational skills. To that end, the Destiny Discover system has tools that allow note-taking (exportable) and bookmarking, while our specific databases enable users to create project folders that store found content and citation information.
Reading
Students are encouraged to read for pleasure and learning. Our physical collection includes thousands of books, and many more are availabe online via ebook or audiobook. We offer incentives for reading books, including PBIS points. Thornridge also participates in the Abe Reading program, an initiative created and run by the Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE).
